About Us

Japanese engines, imported and tested in Broadview, Illinois

JDM Motors of Illinois is an importer and supplier of used and low-mileage Japanese engines, transmissions and related auto parts. We bring in complete units from Japan, prepare them at our facility at 3040 S 26th Ave, Unit B, Broadview, IL 60155, and ship them to customers, repair shops and rebuilders across the United States.

Where our units come from

Japan’s vehicle inspection system and driving conditions mean many vehicles are retired from the road while their drivetrains still have plenty of service life left. Those vehicles are dismantled and the engines and transmissions enter the export market. We source from that supply, buying units that are pulled from running vehicles rather than from scrapped or flood-damaged stock wherever we can verify it.

Because of how these units are collected overseas, original odometer records do not always travel with the engine. We tell you plainly what we know about a unit and what we do not. If a mileage figure cannot be substantiated, we describe the unit as low-mileage based on its physical condition rather than quoting a number we cannot stand behind.

What happens before a unit ships

Every engine and transmission that comes through our building is checked before it goes out the door. Our standard process includes:

  • Visual inspection of the block, head, oil pan, timing cover and mating surfaces for cracks, impact damage and prior repair
  • Inspection for oil and coolant leaks, and for evidence of overheating or contamination
  • Cleaning and degreasing so you receive a unit you can actually inspect on arrival
  • Compression testing on engines, with leak-down testing where the unit and our equipment allow
  • Turning the engine over by hand to confirm it is free and that valvetrain movement is correct
  • Checking transmissions for casing damage, shaft play, fluid condition and free rotation through the gears
  • Photographing the unit and recording the stock number so the part you were quoted is the part that ships

Anything that fails inspection does not go on a pallet. If we find a problem after you have ordered, we contact you before shipping rather than sending a unit we would not install ourselves.

Shipping and local pickup

We ship nationwide across the USA. Engines and transmissions move on pallets by freight carrier, and smaller parts go by standard parcel service. We crate or strap and wrap each unit for transit and load it ourselves.

If you are close enough to drive, you are welcome to pick up at our Broadview facility during business hours. We have equipment on site and our team will help you load into a truck, van or trailer. We recommend calling ahead at (708) 223-0238 so the unit is staged and ready when you arrive.

Who we work with

Our customers include independent repair shops, performance builders, engine rebuilders, dealerships and owners doing their own swap work in a home garage. We are comfortable talking through fitment, what comes attached to a given unit and what you will still need to source, whether you are buying one engine or ordering regularly.
